We wrote about KiTalbums in June, when Rhino Records re-released three albums in the physical-meets-digital format developed by South Korean firm KiTbetter.
Alanis Morisette, Stone Temple Pilots and The B-52’s got the treatment, which blends collectible physical packaging with digital content. But KiTbetter is keen for the format not to be seen as just something for established artists within major-label back catalogues.
It has a ‘DIY platform’ aimed at self-releasing independent artists, which has just been refreshed with new features.
Those include a step-by-step upload process, better visualisation of how the final product will look, better crediting tools and easier video uploads (or imports from YouTube).
The pitch to independent artists is that they’ll make at least $4.70 from every KiTalbum that they sell, although the profit increases on its ‘gold tier’ for purchasing 30 or more albums.
